The object then will be to make our independence a blessing. To do this we must secure our union on solid foundations; an herculean task and to effect which mountains of prejudice must be leveled! It requires all the virtue and all the abilities of the Country. ... We know each others sentiments, our views are the same: we have fought side by side to make America free, let us hand in hand struggle to make her happy.
~~Alexander Hamilton to John Laurens, August 15, 1782

Be Still For the Presence of the Lord

I found this beautiful rendition of the great song, "Be Still for the Presence of the Lord," sung by Aled Jones. The choir in the background is the amazing soprano boy choir, Libera.

I wish I could find more on the history of this hymn. It's one of my favorites!

    Hi Hercules,

It was great to find your blog. Really delighted you enjoyed Aled Jones singing this...he has such a beautiful voice, doesn't he?!!
Just curious to hear how you discovered Aled's music in the States...was it through researching Be Still For the Presence of the Lord, or did you know of Aled before this? Have a relaxing browse through Youtube for loads more of of his performances....you'll love the range of gorgeous songs, some more too with Libera backing him.

Your welcome, Jean. It is lovely.

Susie, welcome to my blog, and thanks for commenting!

I had never heard of Aled Jones before I saw this video, but I had heard of Libera. While looking for some classical music (I'm a classical music buff), I heard their rendition of Pachelbel's Canon, "Sanctus." I was spellbound.

While trying to find more about them, I came across this video, and found out that Aled did co-performances with them. I've heard a few on Tangle (former "GodTube" -- I don't browse YouTube), but this one was my favorite.

I don't know for certain whether he's a Christian or not, but from the songs he sings and the way he sings them, it seems that he is not just showing off his voice. Sincerity in something good and beautiful is always an excellent recipe for good music.

    Thanks again for your comment.

Dave Evans wrote this song during the '80s while he lived in Southampton (UK). It was a favourite at the Community Church and I recall it being sung, with a heavy sense of God's presence and power, at a South and West Bible week. I suspect this was one of the early events that helped it become more widely known.
Subsequently I have heard it on BBC Songs of Praise, seen it on the Alpha song sheet and am thrilled that it has become more widely known.
A great song that has blessed me richly, I feel immensely privileged to have been amongst the first people Dave shared it with.

Thank You All for Reading!
